Reliability-based optimisation (RBO) aims to find the most economical solution that meets a target reliability.

As a tool for RBO, BORM (Buffered Optimisation and Reliability Method) greatly improves computational efficiency, especially in data-driven settings and for general, large-scale systems [Byun & Royset, 2022; Byun et al., 2023].

In practice, BORM has solved a large power-system optimisation problem within ~1.5 hours on a personal laptop:
